MG Motor India has officially launched its much-awaited electric roadster, the MG Cyberster, through its premium MG Select dealerships. Introduced on July 25, 2025, the Cyberster marks a significant milestone for MG as it brings the first electric convertible roadster to the Indian market. The car is priced at ₹72.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for customers who had pre-reserved it, while new bookings are priced slightly higher at ₹74.99 lakh. Deliveries will commence from August 10, 2025, in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pune.
The Cyberster has been designed to offer a blend of futuristic electric performance and nostalgic roadster charm. Targeted at premium buyers who seek open-top fun with cutting-edge technology, it aims to redefine the electric sports car segment in India.
Performance and Battery
The MG Cyberster is powered by a 77 kWh ultra-thin battery pack that is just 110 mm thick, contributing to its sleek profile and low centre of gravity. This battery is paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, producing 510 PS (503 bhp) of peak power and a torque output of 725 Nm. With Launch Control Mode, the Cyberster can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, making it the fastest MG ever launched in India.
The roadster also holds official acceleration records at Rajasthan’s Sambhar Salt Lake, certified by both Asia and India record books. The top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h, which is more than adequate for Indian highways.
In terms of range, the Cyberster boasts an impressive MIDC-certified 580 km per charge, placing it among the leaders in its segment. MG also provides a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, along with a 3-year/unlimited km vehicle warranty, which further adds to its appeal.
Design and Styling
The design of the Cyberster is inspired by the iconic MG B roadster, but with a modern and futuristic twist. Its scissor doors, soft-top convertible roof, and Kammback-style rear give it a unique presence on the road. The car’s aerodynamic shape achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.269Cd, improving both efficiency and stability at high speeds.
The Cyberster rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tyres, ensuring a combination of style and grip. Design highlights include sharp LED DRLs, a sculpted bonnet, arrow-shaped tail lamps, and active aerodynamic elements that enhance high-speed performance. MG offers four eye-catching colour themes, including Flare Red with Black roof, Nuclear Yellow with Black roof, Andes Grey with Red roof, and Modern Beige with Red roof.
Cabin and Features
The Cyberster’s cabin is tech-rich and focused on the driver. The dashboard features a three-screen display setup, with a curved 10.25-inch digital driver’s screen and two 7-inch side displays, while another 7-inch touchscreen on the centre console handles infotainment and climate controls.
Premium materials like vegan leather and Dinamica suede add to the luxury appeal. The flat-bottom steering wheel is sporty, and paddle shifters are available for adjusting regenerative braking. Comfort and convenience features include:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- BOSE premium audio system
- 360-degree camera with parking assist
- Dual-zone climate control with an air purifier
- USB charging ports and wireless phone charger
- Driver monitoring system for enhanced safety
Safety and Handling
The MG Cyberster comes with Level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, and autonomous emergency braking. It also includes four airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and dual-channel ABS.
The car’s Static Stability Factor (SSF) of 1.83 demonstrates excellent rollover resistance, and the chassis is built on a full cradle steel structure with a balanced 50:50 weight distribution. The Brembo 4-piston brakes ensure strong stopping power, bringing the car to a halt from 100 km/h in around 33 metres. A double-wishbone suspension setup further enhances its agility and cornering capabilities.
Market Positioning and Rivals
As the first electric convertible roadster in India, the Cyberster enjoys a unique position. Currently, there is no direct competitor in the sub-₹1 crore electric sports car space. While luxury convertibles like the BMW Z4 or Mercedes-Benz CLE are alternatives, they are ICE-powered, less powerful, and significantly more expensive.
MG has strategically priced the Cyberster to appeal to enthusiasts who want an affordable yet thrilling electric sports car experience.
Verdict
The MG Cyberster stands out as a bold offering that blends classic roadster aesthetics with cutting-edge electric performance. Its jaw-dropping acceleration, long range, and premium features make it a strong contender in the luxury EV segment.
However, it may not be the most practical car for daily use, given its two-seat configuration and limited boot space. Charging speed, which maxes out at 144 kW, and an infotainment system that feels a bit behind some luxury rivals, are minor drawbacks.
For buyers seeking pure driving thrill, open-top freedom, and futuristic electric power, the Cyberster is a game-changer. At ₹72.49 lakh for pre-reserved buyers and ₹74.99 lakh for new customers, it’s an exciting value proposition in India’s rapidly growing EV market.
